Set up space kind rules

Choose where each kind of space can go and whether it holds assets.

Every space has a kind: Organization, Site, Area, Line, or Group. Rules per kind keep your tree consistent, for example sites only at the top level and assets only in lines. By default, every kind can go anywhere and hold assets. You need to be an owner or admin.

  1. Open the workspace menu and select Workspace settings, then Spaces.
  2. In the row of a kind, select Edit.
  3. Under Placed under, select where spaces of this kind can go: Top level, under one or more kinds, or both. At least one place stays selected.
  4. Turn Holds assets off if this kind should contain only spaces.
  5. Turn Can be created off to stop new spaces of this kind.
  6. Under Properties, select Add property to give every space of this kind a property from the library.

Result: each change saves at once, and the table shows the rule as a summary, for example "Top level · No assets".

How the rules apply:

  • They apply when someone creates a space, changes its kind, moves a space, or places an asset.
  • Spaces and assets that no longer fit stay where they are.
  • At least one kind must stay available at the top level.
  • Setup packs install their spaces regardless of the rules.

The rules apply only while the Spaces advanced rules switch is on for the workspace. It is on by default. Without it, the page shows only the properties of each kind. See Spaces and assets.
