Asset types
How asset types classify assets and pass on properties, folders, and images.
Asset types
An asset type groups assets that share properties, documents, and an image, for example "Centrifugal pump". Types form a tree in Library, Asset types: a type can have variations, such as "FM-200 Custom" below "FM-200".
What a type gives its assets:
- Properties. Values set on the type are inherited by its variations and assets. An asset can override a value. See Properties.
- Folders. Document folders on a type show on all its variants and assets. See Folders.
- Image. The picture shown for its assets.
All assets
Every workspace has one top type, All assets. Every type and asset descends from it. An asset with no other type has this type. It cannot be removed.
Identifier patterns
A type can have an Identifier pattern, a regular expression that starts with ^ and ends with $, such as ^PUMP-.*$.
- When you create an asset, an identifier that matches a pattern suggests that type. The deepest matching type wins.
- Assets created without a chosen type, including assets registered from a scan, get the matching type.
- The pattern of All assets is the workspace's rule for allowed identifiers. An identifier that does not match it is refused.
Use Test pattern to check a value against the pattern. Generate pattern writes a pattern from a description and a few real examples; it needs an AI model for the workspace.
Images
Owners and admins upload one image per type, a PNG, JPEG, or WebP of up to 10 MB. An asset shows its type's image, or else the image of the nearest type above it. Members can instead choose one of the asset's own photos with Use as asset image. Public pages show only the type image.
Changing an asset's type
Members who can edit an asset can choose any type for it. Before the change, Machine QR lists the property values that will no longer show. They stay saved and come back if you change the type back.
To delete a type, first move its variations and assets to another type. Deleting cannot be undone.
