Maps and floor plans
Place assets and spaces on the world map or on a floor plan.
Map placements
An asset or space can have one placement: a point or an area, on the world map or on a floor plan. Nothing is placed automatically; a person places each item.
- On the world map, you can search an address to drop the pin there. The address is saved with the placement. Address search needs a geocoder on the server; without one, it says so, and you place the pin by clicking.
- On a floor plan, an item can sit on the plan of its own space or of a space above it. A space never sits on its own floor plan.
When you move an item in the tree, its world placement stays. A floor plan placement is removed if that plan is no longer above the item.
Floor plans
A space can have one floor plan, a PNG, JPEG, or WebP image of up to 20 MB. A space with a floor plan shows it with what is placed on it. Without one, it shows the world map with the world placements at and below it.
On a space, Edit map places its spaces and assets one after another. See Place assets on a floor plan.
Replacing the image keeps each item at its position on the image. Deleting the floor plan takes every item off it.
Location on an asset or space
Assets and spaces show a Location section: a small preview of where they sit. Select it to open the map focused on the item, or select Place on map if it has no placement yet. The saved address shows under the preview.
The map view of the Assets screen
In Assets, open Display, then Display as…, and choose Map. The map shows the assets with a location that match your filters. An asset without its own world placement shows at its nearest placed space, marked "Approximate". Select a pin to open a card, and double-click to open the item.
Turning maps off
Maps are a workspace switch, on by default. While maps are off, the map sections and the map view are hidden, and floor plans and placements stay saved. Only Machine QR platform admins change this switch. See Settings and switches.
